A margin account allows investors to buy shares on credit. The shares purchased are used as collateral for the loan and together with other securities form the basis needed to fulfill the margin requirements. Purchases on margin are leveraged. Leverage gives the clients the ability to buy more shares than they actually would, if they had to pay cash for them. Using the leverage technique clients has the potential to increase returns and/or losses and it is therefore recommended for sophisticated investors only.

Trading on margin is effected only after signing the appropriate agreement with Investment Bank of Greece.
